Hello from Naples Florida!

We haven’t posted in a while so this is  long-overdue!  As you can see from the title, Richard and I are enjoying the warmth that southwestern Florida offers at this time of year and we are grateful for the generosity of friends who have facilitated our stay.  But I couldn’t totally forget the climate of Indiana and further north in Canada so I added the snowflake effect to the blog.  Hope you all like it and it gets you in the Christmas spirit.

We have had a few visitors in the last month or so: Richard’s cousin Steve flew down from Calgary, Alberta over Halloween weekend and he got to see the Colts in action against the 49 ers + tour the Indy 500 race track , his brother Dru came down shortly thereafter and they joined Jonas for a quick re-union of 3 of the 4  players that went to Scotland in August ; Richard and I then drove up to Toronto the following week to visit family and take in a Gordon Lightfoot concert at Massey Hall.  Richard always wanted to go to Massey Hall and now it’s a fait accompli.

Another highlight of the month was having Richard’s good friend Jim take us to see  (and Richard and he played) a couple of the Robert Trent Jones courses on the Trail in Alabama.  It was a wonderful break and a great chance for them to play some awesome courses! Ross Bridge is a must if you ever get the chance !

And then the month culminated with an American Thanksgiving celebration at Mar and Antonio’s, with most of our “local family” gathering to celebrate.  Another highlight of  the Thanksgiving weekend was having two of his favorite young people – Jess who swims as a freshman on the Stanford swim team and Jimmy who is a junior at West Point – stop by to say hello over the weekend.  Richard was so touched that they would make the time to see him.

You may recall my earlier post about November being Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month?  I  sent an e-mail to our homeowner’s association sharing our story and explaining why we had placed the purple lights outside our home.  We were so surprised and touched by the outpouring of support within our neighborhood where many neighbors and friends followed suit and decorated with purple lights and ribbons.

And so our days continue much as before – Richard is my inspiration arising each day eager to seize the day and all that it offers.  We are grateful that Richard’s doctors have medications that alleviate the troublesome symptoms of his cancer so he can remain active and engaged in life.  We are surrounded by so many friends and family who have embraced and supported us through these challenges and for that we are most grateful!

    Dear Jane and Rich,

Thanks so much for sharing your news of the last few weeks. It’s wonderful to “spend some time” with you this way. And Jane, I dig that snow effect!

    xoxo

Thanks for the update Jane and Rich. Hope you’re home safe and sound now and that the weather in Indy isn’t too much of a shock after Florida. Looks like you’re in for a cold wave!

Naples is a great place. I’m envious.

I hope you are doing well and hope you and yours have a great Christmas season.

    Rich:
Glad to see that you were enjoying the warm weather of Florida in early December!! For what it’s worth: here in Allendale, Michigan, we have about 8 inches of snow on the ground from the snow that fell about 2 weeks ago and we’re getting flurries this afternoon. At least we’ll have a White Christmas!!
    Have a wonderful Christmas!!
